Cartier reabre a sua emblemática Boutique em Lisboa

Cartier reopens its boutique at 240 Avenida da Liberdade in Lisbon unveilling a renewed 250m2 space designed by Bruno Moinard and Claire Bétaille architects that harmoniously merges the Maison’s signature sophistication with Portugal’s rich cultural heritage. The boutique stands as a lighthouse, inviting guests on a journey of discovery through spaces that celebrate innovation, creativity, and the fineste savoi-faire. Specially designed rooms house the Maison’s collection of jewellery, watches, accessories, fragrances and offer bespoke services, ensuring every guest feels welcomed into this singular environment. From hand- painted tiles to sculptural textiles, every detail tells a story of craftmanship and dedication, making the boutique a living tribute do its location.

“Since its opening in 2023, the Cartier boutique in Lisbon has accompained the renaissance of Avenida da Liberdade to become a must-see destination for visitors and citizens of Lisbon and Portugal. With this renovation, which we inaugurate in 2024, the new Cartier space pays homage to Portugal’s rich cultural heritage through the contemporary vision of different local artists and will become a meeting point for all Lisboners and visitors to the city” – Nicolas Helly, Managing Diretor Cartier Iberia.

Reflecting Portugal’s deep maritime history, the boutique design honors this legacy while celebrating the country’s current cultural identity through the interplay of tradition and modernity. Cartier remains steadfast in its commitment to preserving craftsmanship, collaborating with skilled artisans to creat artful installations that honor the country’s heritage. Each piece, from intricate marquetry to handcrafted embroidery, stands as a testament to the timeless legacy of exceptional savoir-faire. This dedication celebrates Portugal’s craftsmanship while transforming the boutique into a space where tradition and innovation come together, allowing stories of skill and creativity to endure.

Bathed in soft whites and golds, the intimate Bridal space radiates a serene marine ambiance highlighting the diamond collections of the Maison. At its centre, an installation by artist Véronique de Soultrait showcases ropes in varying sizes and colours, adorned with pearly and golden patinas. These braids, each a symbol of patience and mastery, evoke the rythmic motion of the sea and nod to the roped once used by Portuguese navigators. The wave- patterned carpet ties the room to Portugal’s coastline, seamlessly integrating the graceful curves of Cartier’s rings. Coral-inspired upholstery and a mother-of-pearl panel with shell motifs further enhance the aquatic theme. A chandelier with transparent drops descends like droplets of water, adding  final touch of ethereal elegance to the space.

Drawing inspiration from the traditional embroidery of Castelo Branco and the vision of Portuguese interior design studio Casa do Passadiço, the Garden room showcases Cartier’s iconic jewellery collections such as LOVE, Trinity and Just un Clou. The warm palette of red, yellow and blue echoes Lisbon’s rich artistic and embroidery traditions, infusing the room with vibrancy and warmth. This design beautifully fuses history, culture and beauty in every thread, where the delicate craftsmanship of Castelo Branco embroidery meets Cartier’s refinement.

The motifs, inspired by the beauty and nature, add depth and meaning to the space, enhancing the timeless allure of the area. The legacy of Castelo Branco embroidery, which re-emerged in the early 20th century, weaves together a narrative of perpetual beauty, with every stitch serving as a tribute to craftsmanship that endures.

The Jewellery area is defined by a striking focal point by Lison de Caunes and Midavaine atelier featuring the image of a panthére crafted in straw marquetry and lacquer. The background motif draws on local influences, mirroring the traditional azulejos found in the Portuguese National Museum and on the flag of Lisbon. The yellow and blue hues evoke the nearby Jerónimos Monastery, while the space above is bathed in soft, coloured light through a glass dome, work of the stained glass artist Jorge Aragone. This dome is a tribute to the Art Noveau craftsmanship of the late 19th century that showcases the meticulous process of plique-à-jour enamelling, in which soldered gold wire traces intricate motifs, and the piece is “fired” several times to illuminate the area with a dazzling effect, creating a glow that magnifies this space where the Cartier High Jewellery pieces, Panthére and Grand de Café are displayed.

Inspired by wild nature and lush landscapes, the Watches area envelops visitors in a vibrant atmosphere, where vivid colours and exquisite materials highlight Cartier’s watchmaking collections such as Santos, Panthére, Tank, Baignoite… Vanessa Baragão’s centrepiece, which transforms the traditional art of crochet into a sculptural masterpiece, further enhances this theme. Her intricate work reflects the beauy and fragility of nature, embodying a sophisticated vidion, deeply connected to its surroundings, and a beacon of awareness and beauty.

The Private Salon exudes understated refinement, where rich textiles and a sophisticated blend of blue, white, and yellow set the tone for an intimate and exclusive experience. Delicate pink accents provide a soft contrast, enhancing the refined ambiance. Above, the ceiling draws inspiration from the grand architecture of the Basilica Gallery at the Palace of Mafra, creating a dramatic yet impeccably poised atmosphere for Cartier’s distinguished guests. A striking focal piece by Cédric Peltier commands attention: the Maison’s inconic Panthére painted directly into Viúva Lamego tiles. Portugal’s historic artisanal tile factory. This unique collaboration blends Cédric’s intricate artistry with the authentic craftsmanship of Viúva Lamego, merging almost two centuries of history and transporting the traditional Portuguese tile from the past to the contemporary.

The Guest area mirrors the vibrant energy of Portugal, welcoming clients with a dynamic fusion of bold, captivating colours. The space, where visitors will also find the Maison gift and fragrances collections, is adorned with stunning De Gournay wallpaper, intricately embroided with floral motifs. Golden beiges and champagne bronzes are complemented by lively shaded of orange, setting a cheerful yet sophisticated tone across the walls, floor and furniture. Drawing inspiration from the Mediterranean, the space offers a serene atmosphere influenced by the enchanting Quinta da Regaleira garden, creating a tranquil setting where guests can unwind before continuing on their journey through the boutique.

Art in Avenida exhibits 11 artists from the National Fine Arts Society on Avenida da Liberdade

Art In Avenida exhibits 11 artists from the National Society of Fine Arts on Avenida da Liberdade

During the month of July (from the 6th to the 28th) the Fine Arts will be present in various shops and hotels on Avenida da Liberdade, at Art in Avenida, a joint initiative of the National Fine Arts Society (SNBA) and Avenida Association, which continues to invest in cultural events to attract Portuguese and foreigners to Lisbon’s most iconic avenue. The event is free and is curated by the SNBA, one of the cultural associates, a centenary institution responsible for selecting a small sample of its many artists, who will exhibit their works in different spots of Avenida da Liberdade.

Art in Avenida features original works from areas such as painting, sculpture, collage, photography and plastic arts.

For Associação Avenida spokesperson Sandra Campos, “making Avenida da Liberdade a place that promotes artistic culture and attracts with its creativity and beauty, inviting people to slow down and contemplate, means creating moments that are in tune with the atmosphere of this premium zone of the city. Ever since the 2021 Art Matters event, co-organised by the Gulbenkian Foundation, during which replicas of works from the Gulbenkian Museum were displayed in shop windows and commercial spaces on the Avenida, we wanted to create an event dedicated to the arts once again. The National Fine Arts Society turned out to be the ideal partner for this initiative, due to its prestige, know-how, diversity of talent and its proximity to Avenida da Liberdade. I would like to give a special thank you to all the 11 participating members who, embracing the Association’s vision, hosted the works in their spaces, allowing us to create a memorable event.”

The Art in Avenida event has the support of Lisbon City Council and Turismo de Lisboa.
