Few things capture the spirit of a Lisbon summer better than live jazz, a drink in hand and the sun setting over the Botanical Garden. Throughout August, Há Jazz no Parque Mayer! continues to transform the Capitólio rooftop into one of the city’s most enjoyable summer hideaways, where outstanding contemporary jazz can be enjoyed away from the bustle of downtown Lisbon. 

Curated by the Hot Clube de Portugal, the programme brings together musicians from different generations and artistic backgrounds, ranging from timeless jazz standards and tributes to legendary artists to contemporary original projects and collective improvisation. 

The month opens with the Hugo Lobo Trio featuring Madalena Caldeira, revisiting the Great American Songbook in the unusual combination of voice, Hammond organ and drums. On 9 August, the João Nogueira Quartet pays tribute to John Coltrane with a performance of Coltrane’s Sound, celebrating the centenary of the legendary saxophonist’s birth. 

On 16 August, the Mateus Saldanha Trio explores the American songbook alongside music by Bud Powell, Elmo Hope and original compositions. A week later, Marta Garrett presents Assanhado, blending jazz, Brazilian music and soul with the freedom of improvisation. The series concludes on 30 August with Bode Wilson, one of Portugal’s leading contemporary jazz trios, known for its collective improvisation and adventurous sound. 

Nestled between Avenida da Liberdade and Príncipe Real, the Capitólio rooftop offers a relaxed atmosphere, sun loungers, a bar service and sweeping views over the Botanical Garden. The perfect place to slow down, enjoy a summer drink and let jazz accompany the sunset.
