The French Cinema Festival returns for its 25th edition between October 3rd and November 30th. This year, the festival will welcome several guests and will be held in several cities around the country. In partnership with Cinemateca Portuguesa – Museu do Cinema, in Lisbon, the Festival presents during the month of November a complete retrospective of the work of filmmaker Chris Marker (1921-2012). Developing an essentially documentary cinema over six decades, Marker is the author of a very personal work with a strong essayistic bent, which contributed decisively to the renewal of documentary and has influenced successive generations of creators. Between short and feature films, such as “Sans Soleil” (1982) or “Level Five” (1995), the retrospective reveals more than fifty films and videos, including titles made for television, works that invariably point to the search for new forms by a profoundly original creator. In this 25th edition of the Festival, dozens of films of different genres and cinematographic styles will be programmed, organized in different sections. This year, two new sections are presented: a special program composed of comedy films entitled “Rir à Grande e à Francesa” and a program with films resulting from Franco-Belgian co-productions entitled “Uma Língua, Múltiplos Olhares – the Franco-Belgian co-production”. These new sections will join the usual ones: “antestreias” with movies that recently premiered in France and that will premiere in Portuguese theaters very soon, in other words, a unique opportunity to see first-hand at the Festival what is yet to be released in cinema; “inéditos”, with a selection of recent productions whose commercial distribution is not yet assured in our country; Cinema à Mesa, composed of films dedicated to gastronomy; CineJovem and school sessions with films dedicated to younger audiences; and the much-celebrated Second Chance, an opportunity to review films that have already premiered in theaters.
