
Bougain Avenida

After gaining a special place in Cascais gastronomy since its opening in 2023, Bougain Restaurant & Garden Bar is entering a new phase with the opening of a new location on Avenida da Liberdade, in Lisbon.
THE LOCATION
Located at 164 of Avenida da Liberdade, inside Hotel Valverde, the new Bougain adds the elegance of the avenue to its essence and identity. It is a place marked by an unexpected garden that flows through indoor and outdoor areas, offering a calm atmosphere perfect for enjoying Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, where timeless classics and the quality of ingredients are always the main stars. The city gains a new secret garden, now with the unmistakable signature of Grupo São Bento.
For Miguel Garcia, of Grupo São Bento, the opening of Bougain Avenida enriches and complements the gastronomic offer of Avenida da Liberdade, enhancing the appeal of one of the city’s most iconic avenues. “It is also a moment of pride and an important step in the growth of our restaurant group.”
THE SPACE
The decor of Bougain Avenida is a natural extension of its “older sibling,” born among bougainvilleas and sea breeze. The project shares the same elements, materials and colors, adapted to the contemporary and urban particularities of its new location on Avenida da Liberdade.
As in Cascais, the entrance is made through the garden, where Guatemala green defines the tone and is present in all outdoor tables and in the interior bar area, contrasting with the vibrant bougainvillea colors, also brought from Cascais. Floral-patterned fabrics on upholstery and cushions bring vitality to a space where soft, welcoming light enters and reflects in the glass-enclosed dining room.
The interior is divided into two areas: a bar area at the entrance with a vertical garden that extends the oasis-like feeling while enveloping guests in vintage comfort with its curtains and wallpaper; and the dining room, featuring mostly two- and four-seat tables separated by wooden panels, providing a surprising sense of privacy for such a central location.
With a total capacity of 120 seats (90 for dining and 30 for the bar), Bougain Avenida is the ideal spot for a quiet lunch, a long dinner, or an early evening cocktail.
THE MENU
Bougain Avenida’s menu is a tribute to the classics of Mediterranean cuisine, its products, and techniques — bringing together key elements from the cuisines of France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain, with a strong focus on ingredient discovery and refined preparation. Although the new space brings updates to the menu, the selection designed by Chef João Santos continues Bougain’s Mediterranean essence with a keen eye on seasonal and quality ingredients.
Highlights include grouper and shrimp bouillabaisse, spicy tuna tartare, and scallop carpaccio for starters. Among the mains, standouts are red mullet with leek purée, sea bass au papillote, dry-aged rib eye, and steak au poivre.
Desserts follow a classic line, with suggestions like profiteroles or basil, lime, and ginger tart. As expected, signature dishes by Chef Diana Roque travel from Cascais and hold a prominent place on the new menu: starters include cured amberjack and garlic prawns, while mains feature the unmissable beef Wellington and scarlet prawn rice. For dessert, the famous tiramisù is also present.
BAR & WINE CELLAR
Cocktail artistry has always been a pillar at Bougain Cascais and will continue to be a key focus at Avenida da Liberdade, now a natural meeting point in the city. The new bar, crafted in Guatemala green marble and located right at the restaurant entrance, offers signature cocktails like the Ginger Basil Smash, Passion Affair, and Pink Sour, alongside timeless classics such as the Dry Martini and Negroni.
In addition to six favorites from Cascais, new creations will be introduced to complement the Lisbon menu. The wine cellar features over 130 labels from across Portugal, with emphasis on both major national brands and small producers. International selections include highlights from France and Italy.
