Art in Avenida features artists from the National Society of Fine Arts on Avenida da Liberdade.

Avenida da Liberdade will once again host Art in Avenida from 1 to 31 July, an event showcasing artworks by 17 artists from the National Society of Fine Arts (SNBA), one of Portugal’s most prestigious institutions dedicated to the arts, across a variety of distinctive venues.

The initiative has been a resounding success, providing a strong incentive for Associação Avenida to once again invite the SNBA, which is responsible for the event’s curation, to develop a third edition featuring an even greater number of artists and venues, as well as an extended programme to further celebrate the artistic side of Avenida da Liberdade.

The result is a more ambitious collective exhibition running throughout the month of July, bringing together original works of painting, photography, collage, and sculpture. These artworks come to life in shops, hotels, restaurants, offices and a gallery along Avenida da Liberdade, transforming the avenue into an open showcase of contemporary artistic expression.

The experience offers a dual journey of discovery: art and place. Art in Avenida invites visitors to explore works by SNBA artists while following a route through the diverse venues that host them, fostering both support for the arts and closer connections between the 15 members of Avenida da Liberdade and the wider public.

Art in Avenida showcases a wide range of artistic expressions by artists from different generations, inviting contemplation of creative expression through a freely accessible exhibition. The event is perfectly aligned with the mission of Associação Avenida, which is committed to organizing cultural initiatives that enrich the experience of those who live, work, and visit Avenida da Liberdade.

About the National Society of Fine Arts:

The National Society of Fine Arts is a Portuguese cultural association founded in 1901, with the main purpose of “promoting and supporting the progress of art in all its forms, defending the interests of artists and, in particular, its members, seeking to assist them both morally and materially; cooperating with the State and other relevant entities in all matters concerning national art and the development of artistic culture.”

Its headquarters, located at No. 36 Rua Barata Salgueiro, is the “Palace of Fine Arts,” designed by architect Álvaro Machado and inaugurated in 1913. It includes its grand hall, which makes it unique in the city of Lisbon. The SNBA offers a dynamic and continuously evolving exhibition programme, as well as Artistic Training Courses that exemplify its role in educational innovation, focused on the development of new audiences and high-quality artistic education.
