A New Approach to Regenerative Hair Medicine

Hair loss is a common concern, but not all cases are the same. For this reason, hair medicine has evolved toward increasingly personalized approaches that seek not only to treat hair loss but also to preserve and improve the quality of existing hair follicles.
One of the techniques that has sparked interest is PRF (Fibrin-Rich Plasma).
PRF is obtained by drawing a small amount of blood from the patient. After processing, a concentrate is created that contains a matrix of fibrin, platelets, and other cellular components involved in the body’s natural tissue repair mechanisms.
The main characteristic of PRF lies in its fibrin matrix. This structure can act as a scaffold for the gradual release of certain factors present in the concentrate. It is this characteristic that has led to the study of PRF in different areas of regenerative medicine, including hair health.
At Clínica LHR, on Avenida da Liberdade, this approach is now part of the options available in the field of Hair Medicine, always following a medical evaluation.
Are PRF and PRP the same thing?
No.
Although both are derived from the patient’s blood, PRF and PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) differ in their preparation and final composition.
PRP is essentially a liquid concentrate rich in platelets. PRF, on the other hand, forms a fibrin matrix that incorporates various cellular components. In practice, these are two distinct approaches within regenerative medicine.
PRF has been studied as a complementary treatment for certain cases of hair loss, including androgenetic alopecia. The goal is to create an environment conducive to the natural processes of regeneration and repair of the scalp and tissues associated with the hair follicle.
Each case of hair loss may have a different cause. Genetic and hormonal factors, age, stress, nutritional changes, or certain medical conditions can influence hair health.
According to Dr. Augusto Guerreiro, Clinical Director of Clínica LHR, the introduction of new techniques should always be accompanied by an individualized assessment.
